Copper and Fiber Basic Technician’s Kit

MS2-100 + FTK1000

The Fluke Networks MS2-FTK MicroScanner2 basic technician's kit includes a MicroScanner2 cable verifier and a SimpliFiber Pro optical power meter to verify cable functioning of new and existing copper and fiber network installations. The meter displays a graphical wiremap, cable length, cable ID, and distance-to-fault. A tone generator produces digital and analog signals to locate cable or wire pairs. Digital mode locates high-grade cabling, including Category 5e, Category 6, and Category 6a in bundles or at switches, patch panels, and wall outlets. Analog mode verifies Category 3 and below voice-grade cabling, coax, security, alarm, and speaker wiring. VDV service detection verifies media services, including powered 10/100/1000 Ethernet switches, plain old telephone services (POTS) voltage and polarity, and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) voltage and pairs. A backlit LCD is oversized for clear viewing in a variety of lighting levels, and a rubber holster protects the meter in rugged environments. Copper and fiber testers are used by network technicians to troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize performance of copper and fiber optic cabling, hardware connections, and network settings in enterprise networks.

The Fluke Networks FTK1000 fiber optic cable test kit includes a SimpliFiber Pro optical power meter with a multimode light source to measure power and loss using dual-wavelength testing which simultaneously transmits 850 and 1300 nm wavelengths for verification of cabling in multimode fiber networks. The meter is also calibrated for 1310, 1490, 1550, and 1625 nm wavelengths to measure single-mode cabling when paired with a single-mode light source (sold separately). A minimum and maximum function tracks power fluctuations and a reference value can be set to enable a direct display of fiber loss. The meter's internal memory stores up to 1,000 test results, and those results can be downloaded via the meter's USB 2.0 interface to a computer for long-term records retention, or for analysis and generation of certification reports using the included LinkWare software. The software is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, and 7 operating systems. The CheckActive function emits an audible tone and displays an icon when a live link or port is detected effectively saving time with quick confirmation of whether the link or port is live without power measurement set up required. The FindFiber function identifies cabling runs and ensures polarity effectively saving time by providing fast cable-routing identification using just one technician thus enabling easy cable-mapping verification and documentation. The Min/Max function tracks a testing session’s power fluctuations effectively saving time by accurately identifying intermittent power fluctuations and eliminating unreliable and inaccurate guesswork as well as the need for constant monitoring due to the auto-pilot tracking feature. Test results are displayed on a black and white LCD that has a backlight for visibility in low light. The meter can be set to turn off automatically after 10, 20, 30, or 60 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life. Additional specifications include power measurement accuracy of + or – 0.25 dB and various environmental operating conditions. In addition to the SimpliFiber Pro meter with multimode light source, the kit includes an SC power meter adapter, a USB interface cable, LinkWare PC software CD, SimpliFiber Pro product manuals CD, batteries for each device, a carrying case, and instructions.

MicroScanner2 Cable Verifier Features

Revolutionary Interface

Yesterday’s cable verification testers force users to toggle between up to four different modes of operation to view all test results. This not only slows the test process, but also causes frustration and leads to high user error rates. MicroScanner2 has defeated this convention by displaying key test results – wiremap, pair lengths, distance to fault, cable ID, and far end device – all on one screen. Plus it features an oversized, backlit LCD screen with the power to display wiremap results graphically, which brings unprecedented comfort and clarity to the user experience.

Multimedia Support

Tired of losing or breaking all the adapters needed for testing the various voice, data, and video media types? MicroScanner2 makes these awkward adapters things of the past with built-in RJ11, RJ45, and coax support. Both the main unit and the far-end identifiers can be used to test telephone jacks, Ethernet jacks, and CATV outlets right out of the box. Just one more way MicroScanner2 streamlines cable verification.

IntelliTone Toning

MicroScanner2 features built-in IntelliTone digital and analog toning to precisely locate virtually any cable or wire pair, regardless of work environment. Use digital mode to locate high-grade data cabling (Cat 5e/6/6a) in bundles, or at switches, patch panels, or wall outlets. Digital mode especially performs in environments with high data, RF, or electromagnetic interference. When coupled with the IntelliTone 200 Pro Probe, it can also be used to verify cable wiremap from either the tester end or the probe end. Use analog mode on voice-grade cabling (Cat 3 and below), as well as coax, security/alarm, and speaker wiring.

VDV Service Detection

Voice, data, video technicians have a lot more problems to deal with than just the cabling. They have to rule out a whole host of potential cable and service issues before determining the cause of a connection problem. MicroScanner2 acknowledges this, giving technicians high power vision to detect today’s most common service problems. Detect the presence of POTS voltage and verify polarity. Verify powered 10/100/1000 Ethernet switches at the far end. Or, confirm proper PoE voltage and pairs.

Rugged Housing

With all the abuse you put your tools through, you can’t afford for them to be delicate. MicroScanner2 features a rubber wrap-around holster that makes it the right tool for even the toughest jobs. Toss it into your toolbox. It can handle it. Plus, it now comes standard with a vinyl carry pouch for enhanced protection and convenience.

Oversized Display

A large, backlit LCD makes results crystal clear whether in bright sunshine or in a dark closet.
